When you look at a recipe what do you see? Do you ever go straight to the ingredients list and get really disappointed by the fact that the whole ingredients list belongs in a box?
I know I do.
Chicken Broth from a box, frozen chicken breast, marinara from a jar, garlic from a jar, pumpkin puree from a can, beans from a can. Not a one of these recipes that I see tell you how to make those things from scratch.
The very first thing I do when I look at a recipe is, I try to figure out how I can make it without all the processed stuff. I know people who post the recipes make them so they are as “easy” as possible because we are all busy and our lives never seem to slow down. But I’m here to challenge you to leave “easy” behind and embrace the “simple” one instead.
The problem is the glaring disconnect modern humans have with nature, with food, with the world outside our boxes. I spent 3 hours today reading books about herbs and still don’t feel much closer to the answers than I did when I started. I wish I had a person to turn to who knew more about food and herbs and how we can find wellness through what we consume. The truth of the matter is, not a single person in my community knows anything about this stuff. In fact, I’m the weird one in the family because of the limited knowledge that I do have.
At Christmas time I made marshmallows, made from the marsh-mallow root and gelatin and my family truly didn’t believe that a Marsh-mallow was a plant, nor did they know that it was used as a traditional medicine in our not so distant history.
Anyways, all this is to say that I hope to impart better wisdom on my community about how we can do these simple things to nurture and heal our bodies. I will be posting the marsh-mallow recipe soon, but I want to make a sort of step-by-step video to show you how it’s done! I hope that you stick around to learn and grow with me, and if there is anything you want me to test out or research, reach out and I’ll be happy to do my best!
Coming up on the list will also be:
Marsh-Mallows – Biggest challenge will be finding the ingredients!
Kombucha – Guys it’s seriously so EASY!!
Sourdough – A bit harder but really it’s not that bad
Canning Beans – On the list of things I want to try and better understand
Pickled Anything – Also not real familiar with this, but I’m ready to learn!
